Nike Inspires

I love girl power, I love anything that inspires girls to be their own person and to follow their dreams.  Anything from boxing, running a fortune 500 company, opening up a small business, to being an active stay at home mom (which is no easy feat).    I love the little girl with the baseball glove, so much attitude — it’s precious.

The following video inspires me to move and just do, to dance.  I’ve talked about taking dancing lessons for so long.  I love ballet, contemporary, jazz, and hip hop. I would want to start with contemporary and hip hop and go from there but I feel so insecure about my weight and movement. (things jiggle)  I tell myself I’ll run off the excess weight and then I’ll join a dance class…and I’ll do it too, I’ll run it off and then I’ll get lazy or complacent and be right back where I started.  No more though.  It’s a new day and it’s going to different this time and this video is going to help:

This Is My Body

This video is amazing!  It speaks to so many different issues and each of them are so incredibly important.

I’m amazed at how much society loves to try to “control” others.  I say “control” because setting laws, creating taxes, enforcing mandates that force people to do what you want them to do isn’t actual control.  It’s force.

A country that was stolen and re-built so they could stop being “forced” from the royals does the same to it’s citizen now but under the disguise of the law.

I agree with all accounts of this argument.  I am Pro CHOICE for women.  A woman has the right to decide what happens to her and she should be able to control her own life.  It is no one else’s damn business.   This is in regards to all issues, including abortion.  How dare people feel they can impose their ideas and guilt onto someone else.

Clean House Progress!

Here is a mini update as to what is going on right now.  I have a bunch of small to do’s and then I have those basic to do’s that never seem to go away.  Like, do the dishes, swiffer the apartment, clean the bathroom, etc etc.  I think once things start finding their place, it’ll be easier to get into routine of just basic clean up.  But for now it’s all a pain!

I do however love seeing progress!  The kitchen table is less crowded, the coffee table is ALMOST clear and most of my clothes have a home.

I did buy a hanging shelf for my entrance way close to hold my dresses, but once I finished putting everything in it buckled and bent the top board.  I’m not loving it so much.  So for now, that is a temporary solution that will need to be addressed in the solution.

I’ve decided to hold off on some key items until after I decide to move or not.  My lease ends at the end of November and if I am going to move, I’d rather just buy “new” stuff for when I get to the next place.  I’m trying to make use of what I already have.  This way when moving time does come, I may have less stuff to worry about!

Unfortunately, I dont’ think my dresser will survive a move so I know that is once piece that will have to go. 😦

Here are some pictures of each room area as it is now:

If you’ve seen the original videos than you’ll notice I’ve changed a good amount of stuff around.  I’ll break it down section by section another day.  For now, here is an updated list.

Entry/Hallway

  • Wipe door
  • Fix peep hole
  • Hang up art on wall across from the closet
  • Clear out shoes/bags/boxes
  • Clean entrance floor matt

Entry Closet

  • Go through dresses/coats/skirts (donate items I don’t wear)
  • Purchase hanging shelf to save closet space
  • Remove boxes from the shelves above
  • Organize boxes and items in boxes (throw out unnecessary items)
  • Purchase bins for the the towels in the linen closet
  • Purchase bed linens storage (must find options)

Sleeping Area

  • Buy a lamp shade
  • Paint desk lamp
  • Purchase a frame for the bed
  • Purchase new pillows

Dining Table/Computer Desk

  • Sell computer desk by September. — still trying to sell!
  • If the desk doesn’t sell, I will take apart the dining table and store against the wall in the kitchen.
  • I’ll remove the hutch from the desk and convert the desk into a dining table.
  • Paint top of the desk if it becomes a dining table.
  • I have a bunch of tools all over the desk – buy toolbox

Coffee Table/Chest

  • I want to clear off the top of this once and for all.
  • Decide if I want to paint it or not.
  • Make sure I’m using the space inside efficiently!

Side Wall (where the dresser current lives)

  • Once the Desk moves – the dresser will move to that spot
  • Clear off dresser top and organize all make up
  • Install shelf to hold items
  • Find new dresser to hold clothes
  • Purchase a coat rack to go where the dresser currently is
  • Hang up art work (have to figure out what is going to go here)
  • Hang up Key Hanger (have to find one first)

Bathroom

  • Find crates to hang above the toilet to store items
  • Organize under the sink

Kitchen

  • Get rid of bookshelf.
  • Find a new storage solution w/ Doors to store canned goods, recipe books, and clear counter tops.
  • Hang up art work. I did this but then the frame fell and broke as I had  placed it but not officially hung it.  *sigh* — gotta start all over.
  • Organize cabinets better.
  • Re-use empty wine bottles (lots of DIY potential)

There are a bunch of small item things I need to do, but I’m not sure where they will live once I’m done.  As with everything in life, it’s a work in progress.

What does Financial Freedom Mean to you?

So this is something I’m constantly trying to figure out.  What does it mean to me personally to be financially free.

Does it mean I don’t have to work?
Does it mean I can go on vacation any time I want to?
Does it mean I don’t have any debt?
Does it mean I will one day own a huge house?
Does it mean I’ll have a nanny?
My own private jet?
5 cars in my driveway?
Some ridiculously ugly piece of furniture?

As I’m still working trying to define it for myself.  I’ve learned one thing.

Financial Freedom means having the flexibility to handle 3k worth of college tuition so my sister doesn’t have to worry about it right now.

Pretty damn good feeling.

Clean House Update

I’ve been really busy since I posted about how messy my apartment was.

It was great because I had PK watch the video and my two favorite quotes are:  “Wow you’re place is a mess” and “You’re going to post an update soon, right?”

I found it endearing and sweet hahaha.

Anyhow, I’ve made lots of progress but there is still so much to do.  One thing I realized is that most people have a room to “hide” things that still need work or need their attention.  Living in a studio apartment, I don’t have that luxury.  So if items are pending, they are in full view until dealt with!  Realizing this was definitely a hard pill to swallow.

Here are some video updates of how things look after my initial run through:

You’ll notice some things seem cleaner, while others seem messier.  I’ve gotten rid of a few boxes by consolidating items.  I’ve also thrown out a lot of papers and just random stuff I seem to be collecting.  I’ve organized 3/4’s of one of my closets.  The other closet still needs a lot of work but I have items coming in from Amazon to help me get started.

I still have “piles” of stuff to deal with it.  But now they are a bit more organized.  Some require me to call and close up pending items, others require purchases to help me organize/store them better.

It’s definitely a work in progress.

To help me (and you) keep track of what’s going on.  I’ve made a list of all the things I would like to address based on “sections” of the apartment.

100th Post

So I just hit 100 posts!

I started the blog in August 2009 – see my first post here.  It’s so crazy that I started this blog while I was living in Atlanta and I actually posted my 100th post while I’m in Atlanta!

This is no way means I’m done blogging, but it’s just exciting.  I can’t believe it took 3 years to reach 100 posts though hahaha, I did slack a good bit in 2010 and life was too good in 2011 to sit down and write about it as I was too busy living it.

But here we are, three years later, at my third job after college and pretty damn content with how my life has turned out.  Despite the few current bumps in the road, life is good.

Of course it always comes down to how you look at things.  100 posts, no followers, or frequent commenters haha.  One step at a time, one step at a time. We’ll get there.

I hope you’ve enjoyed it so far and I can’t wait to show you what I have in mind for this place in the next couple of months!  Stay tuned and I’ll speak to ya soon!

Throwback Thursdays: Alicia Keys – Butterflies

A friend posted this video on Facebook with this blurb

I read in VIBE yesterday that Alicia Keys called Erykah Badu to play this for her on the piano. Erykah said she cried when she first heard it. It reminded me how much I loved it, too.

I believe the song is from 2007, I don’t know how many years old a song has to be to officially be a throwback, but I think 5 years is a good minimum.

Read more about Alicia Keys here.

What other Alicia Keys songs do you enjoy?
