I know I’m a bit late with the Olympics being over, but this is my small attempt the keep the memory alive.
I love this! I recently saw this on another blog I read.
It’s amazing to see how much things have changed over the past 100+ years! It still shocks me when I hear a child’s birthday has 20## instead of 199#!
Anyhow check out some of these images
I love this, the long dresses, the hats, so much awesomeness in one picture. I wish I could see what they were aiming it.
Tug-a-war! I don’t know if that is the official title of this event – but this is great! Do you remember playing tug-a-war! It’s no joke.
I could see this lady as a little girl walking over her toys in this manner in order to practice!
I’m fascinated that people can do this in leotards, but the fact she is wearing a dress, panty hose, and I believe a HAT! make this incredible.
I love seeing how times have changed. I bet there wasn’t any Gatorade at this event? There also seems to be little to no advertising. I think I’d love to see our gymnasts compete in full day to day wear!
I read somewhere that it was once a “show up to compete” type of event. Could you imagine if they did that today?
This video is amazing! It speaks to so many different issues and each of them are so incredibly important.
I’m amazed at how much society loves to try to “control” others. I say “control” because setting laws, creating taxes, enforcing mandates that force people to do what you want them to do isn’t actual control. It’s force.
A country that was stolen and re-built so they could stop being “forced” from the royals does the same to it’s citizen now but under the disguise of the law.
I agree with all accounts of this argument. I am Pro CHOICE for women. A woman has the right to decide what happens to her and she should be able to control her own life. It is no one else’s damn business. This is in regards to all issues, including abortion. How dare people feel they can impose their ideas and guilt onto someone else.

Firefox browser has a feature called “News” (other browsers have this too). I remember in college I would open up all the windows within this tab to read the headlines of what was going on in the world for the past 24 hours. Headlines that caught my attention would provoke me to read the rest of the article. (The videos were the most annoying). Anyhow, after about a semester of doing this, I realized thousands of people die everyday and as I kept reading, I started to become immune to the numbers. Especially as most recorded deaths were occurring overseas.
“Until it hit home” – first with the Colorado shooting and now the shooting in Wisconsin. I try not to follow these stories too closely as they become infuriating and deter my faith in humanity, but with all the different news outlets, it’s hard to escape.
Many died, and the shooter was detained. Reports say he is a white supremacist. My question is, why not just label him a terrorist? It’s interesting the various titles they have to describe killers and their intentions. So I looked up the difference between and Supremacist and Terrorist. (source: dictionary.com)
Terrorist: A person who uses terrorism in the pursuit of political aims.
Supremacist: An advocate of the supremacy of a particular group, esp. one determined by race or sex
Hate comes in so many different forms. A man on the plane was reading the Wall Street Journal and I saw the picture above in his article. The picture moves me in a sad kind of way. My heart aches for those who are suffering and for those who have lost their lives due to the hatred that fills this one mans soul.
I hope people take this as an opportunity to educate themselves about Sikhism, and teach their children and those around them about acceptance.
The world is too small to be ignorant.
I’m in shock. I have no words, yet there are so many things I want to say or ask.
Like, why aren’t the emergency exit doors more closely watched. Why can you open it from the outside? Isn’t it only supposed to be a one way exit? What would drive someone to open fire in a theater full of innocent people? Why during the opening of The Dark Knight Rises? Why was there an infant at the movie theaters? (One of the 12 individuals that died that night was very very young).
It’s so sad, and such a scary thought to be reminded that you can lose your life just about anywhere. I spend so much time at the movies. I love going to the movies. I actually went to an opening night show of TDKR movie in Queens, NY. There were cops and security walking around, but nothing out of the ordinary.
My heart goes out to all those who lost someone that night and to those whose lives are now ruined due to the insane amount of medical debt they will accrue.
Props to Obama for not campaigning.
